I have been thinking about the Mary Magdalene Celebration a lot this weekend. Some months ago I had written a whole post about it and I lost it as it sometimes happens in this platform I use. But the time has come to continue organizing the event, and we have musicians confirmed. Georgie, who has accompanied us for the last two years, put together a small group of musician that will perform at the end to give energy and joy to the culmination of the Celebration.
We will use the same format of the usual ceremony, which starts with an opening ceremonial dance by Corazón Tierra, goes on to the songs by Raquel Z. Rivera, and culminates in a communal dance led by the girls that participate in Corazon’s dance project and blending into the final musical act. In between, we have other inspirations such as guest dancers and poets. This year, we will also have a small sample of the crafts show again, with tables by guest artists and crafters.
Because I have done it many times by now, the base format that has developed helps me envision it and organize it. But there’s still a lot to do before the event, such as promotion. As with everything else, I do the best I can. The most important for me is to create an atmosphere where new guests feel welcome and surprised, and those who return feel how they are an important part of the celebration.
The whole event takes about 1.5 hour plus the reception time, cleanup and departure. And this year I will also present my book Creative Soul in a mini event previous to the Celebration. It will all be fluid and spaced by a reception at the end of the book presentation that will also serve as a welcoming reception for guests of the Celebration. I hope it works! In my mind, it makes sense.
The book contains a lot of images of Mary Magdalene, so it’s not discordant with the theme. It is also basically my philosophy of life, and an inspiration of the heart, so in that way, it’s all about the same process of painting Mary Magdalene and about creativity as a healing practice.
Each day will be an opportunity to conceive and plan the event as I think about it. Blogging, after all, has always been and is my best thinking tool!
