A Dream is a Proposal to the Universe

Sometimes, I feel ridiculous. What is this obsession with realizing dreams that I can never let go of? Why can’t I just accept life as it is? After all, it’s not so bad. I have everything I need. I am loved and respected. I have achieved many dreams in the past—almost all of them, in fact.
I suspect many people tell themselves these things when they reach a certain age. Most, I imagine, accept them and continue living, enjoying life the best they can. Perhaps they are not as obsessive as I am, or maybe they are more patient. I can’t think like most people and say, “I will retire properly first, get a pension, build my wealth, and then do (art, music, writing, etc.).”
Dreaming and imagining that fine-tuned life is something I insist on. I know it exists in some quantum universe I haven’t yet reached. I’ve experienced it before, and I want it back.
The life I want isn’t about comfort, wealth, or luxury. But it’s also not about lack, poverty, or abstinence from the good things in life. The life I want is about freedom.
“To live free physically, emotionally, and economically. To live in pure joy. To be awake and aware.”
Those are my grand goals, interpreted as a dream.
In my dream, I paint, create, travel, write, and meet with people I enjoy. I share creativity, attend poetry readings and book launchings, and spend hours in the studio, museums, and cafes. I write letters, walk the streets of Spain, and wander through the forests of Puerto Rico. I feel the warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean gently enveloping my body, the sun kissing my skin. I sleep when I need to, eat when I need to, flow and have fun. Whether I grow old or not, I stay in continuous movement. I exist in a state of joy and creativity, supported by the love of the universe and the love I have for myself and others.
That is my proposal to the Universe. That is what I work on when I allow myself to forget the practicalities of life. I escape my normal life and live perfect days in my studio to practice how to live free. I don’t want freedom and joy to catch me by surprise!
And how about you? What is your proposal to the Universe? Do you dream? Do you make time for perfect days?
“A Dream is a Proposal to the Universe” is one of the phrases from my book Creative Soul and from the prompts of the Creative Soul Journal. For more inspiration, you can find a fun sticker in my Etsy store or here in my website:
