Puerto Rican Art
I created many of these pieces while I was an undergraduate student/M.F.A. at The City College of New York, and in the beginning of my professional career when I met a group of young Puerto Rican lovers of bomba and plena, the afro-caribbean music of Puerto Rico.
While my style and themes have evolved, these pieces remain close to my heart. I feel that in some way, these works of art have contributed to help people communicate their love for Puerto Rican culture and history. This is the testimony of my love for my country and culture.
This growing series is titled Puerto Rican Heart and Soul.
Guabancex is the zemi or deity of chaos and disorder in Taíno mythology and religion, which was practiced by the Taíno people in Puerto Rico, as well as by Arawak natives elsewhere in the Caribbean. She was described as a mercurial goddess that controlled the weather, conjuring storms known as “juracán” when displeased.

Puerto Rican Pantheon
Puerto Rican Pantheon is a series of digital images of well known characters of Puerto Rican history who have fought for the island's independence in words, actions or both. The word pantheon refers to "all the gods of a people or religion collectively," and it also refers (in Puerto Rican dialect) to the structure of a family tomb, a repository for the dead. Out of this group, many are almost unknown to the majority of Puerto Ricans in the island and the U.S. And of course, many are still missing, and others are infamous. The work began with the believers in independence. This is a work in progress, and it may grow or change in concept, material and/or form.
