Today’s drawing of Mary Magdalene

I’m trying to find new ways to draw Mary Magdalene. After 4 months of continuous nightly drawing, it’s a way to explore new possibilities. Tonight I thought of the painting one the cover of The Gospel of Mary Magdalene by Jean-Yves Leloup

In The Gospel of Mary Magdalene by Jean-Yves Leloup, the author discusses the cultural and philosophical views expressed by the Gospel of Mary. He presents the text in the original and in translation, then goes on to examine the text in detail with annotations.

One concept that has stayed with me through the years is the idea that in order for a person to become fully human, or Anthropos, neither male nor female, the body, the soul, and the spirit are to be in balance with Spirit, the Nous.

The phrase “There where is the nous, lies the treasure,” is explained by the author as “we become what we love and we become what we know.” This is a beautiful thought for a creative person looking to transform, shape, refine and beautify a life.

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene is a profound text that, if read carefully and thoughtfully, can teach us about the fundamental ideas present at the time of the emergence of the Christian faith and of the individual’s journey to a deeper spiritual experience.

I have been adding short book reviews (a work in progress):
