Preparing for the Mary Magdalene Celebration (and the Presentation of Creative Soul)

It will be 15 years since the first time Raquel Z. Rivera and I presented our work inspired by Mary Magdalene. A lot has changed since then, but the memories of the process remain precious and alive in my mind. It was a work of inspiration and friendship.

And that has been the moving force of the celebration all these years. Inspiration and friendship. New friends, and old friends, coming together for a special moment.

This year will be the last celebration in this format, for now. Like I said at the beginning, a lot has changed, and the time has come for me to approach life and art in new ways, in ways that fit the person I am today. So this year’s Celebration will be very special to me.

I also now know what the creative presentation of Creative Soul will be. We are going to create a Magical Medallions as we read and talk about the ideas in the book.

Magical medallions are both easy to make and beautiful, a great way to approach creative action for beginners.

I have done large workshops in the past. They are not easy, but I think this one should be fun. I practiced a few weeks ago during a training with groups of about 35 people. Plus I plan to train some of my young assistants (students) this week to help with the workshop. I look forward to seeing everyone proudly wearing their pieces during the celebration!

In between we’ll have a reception. This will give everyone time to arrive, early or late, to be on time for the ceremony.

My attempts with zoom in the past have not been super successful, but if I can, at least I will have Raquel’s presentation in zoom or facebook. It would be nice to record it and post it here.

Today I started packing. It’s a little scary how much I have to bring with me!

I look forward to a simple and beautiful event, where everyone joins a final dance. And to dreaming new ways to celebrate. Because the promise remains: Prayerfully painting for more love, for more peace, for more faith, for our world to be reborn. (From Mary Magdalene of the Tears, the last text of the first series of paintings.)
