Painting Changes

Painting is still in progress.
Painting is still in progress.

I spent the day painting, back to the painting in progress that I have been working on this month. I changed several things in it and… there probably will be more changes. It still needs a lot of work, but it’s getting closer.

It is at this point that a painting requires trust and faith. It’s the moment when it’s not working, when it’s tempting to let it go and start over with a white canvas. But after so much work, one becomes reluctant to let it go. Experience tells me that if I keep working, I will find a solution.

It’s tempting to stop now and start something new. It’s tempting to give up. The fact that I will probably need to wait a full week to return to the painting, all disconnected from it by then, is probably the most discouraging. Because I want to see the solution right away so that I can continue to believe in the process.

In the old times, when I could finish a painting in 3 days, there was no solution needed because the vision was clear, the hands were practiced, the mind was trained. This is the best reason to continue. Get back to myself, to the person that could do that easily.

I have one more day before it all starts again. Sunday. Now I must tell my mind to figure it out while I sleep and start early tomorrow.
