Painting

It was good to step out of the studio today and go to Central Park for a picnic with friends. I’ve been a little nervous about next weekend and having everything ready.
The new Magdalene paintings will not all be ready for Sunday, and there’s not much I can do about it. I simply don’t have enough time, and it takes me a long time to complete a painting.
It’s not just the time, it’s the moment, the light, my physical disposition, and the levels of stress. I can’t paint like I draw. A drawing is simple, a few materials, practically no set up, and I have learned to accept whatever comes out. But a painting is for me more serious, something I can’t rush. When I have rushed paintings, I have not been happy with them. But I did give some final touches to one small painting: Veil of Leaves, based on one of the drawings I published here.
I’m working on several more. It’s a slow process. I won’t have them on Sunday. But it’s ok, I do as much as I can with the time I have. I work every day, and that, over time, adds up. The most important thing is: to never stop.
