Drawing Mary Magdalene

When I think of Mary Magdalene, I don’t think of a person or personality, although sometimes I might connect ideas with the things the Bible character suggests about who she was. When I think of Mary Magdalene, I think of an idea, an energy, a subtle spirit that is quietly present as life goes on. And sometimes, when most needed, she lends her strength and radiates upon you the bravery to continue.
I read so much about her when I first discovered her story, her many stories, and went on to paint her, inspired by what I read.
These days I don’t read as much, at least not paper books, my eyes get too tired, I’m too tired at the end of the day. But still, I feel accompanied along the path.
And then, when I draw, whatever comes out, it’s about the feeling while drawing, the coming together of all good things in a moment.
Drawing is never hard. It’s the most natural offering I can give.
