What is the Mission? A Creative Spirituality

What is the mission of Magdalene.org? To explore the role of the Magdalene from different perspectives, including creativity as a spiritual path.

As an artist and writer interested in this Christian character, I create art through which I explore Mary Magdalene in my imagination and through stories I pick up as I learn more about her. Because Mary Magdalene is perhaps the only Biblical character whose story has been told in so many different ways, this makes her available and accessible to anyone. She is who you need her to be. In essence, she is a creative saint: shaped by the imagination of people through the centuries.

It is usually women and men who grew up at a time when religion was at the center of their education and formation of their psyche who are attracted to discovering a Mary Magdalene that defies the version of her story that patriarchal institutions offered them. It has been shocking to many people educated in the 20th century to discover that nowhere in the Bible does it say that she was a prostitute. Instead, she may have been a rich woman, a learned woman, a woman of faith, or even the wife of Jesus Christ.

For many, the question that comes to mind at that moment of discovery is: how different would society have been if there had been a woman of power walking with Jesus Christ?

In these first 25 years of the 21st century, Mary Magdalene has been recovered, recreated and vindicated. And one of the dimensions of life and spirituality in which she has been more throughly reimagined is through art and creative practice.

When creativity is rightly placed at the center of a spiritual practice and exercised regularly to create wellness and balance, it provides that elusive element of self-development that all who seek to grow in connection with Spirit aspire to unveil. Creativity is a need for the 21st century human being who is ready to evolve and discover what this life experience has to offer us.

In the blog Magdalene.org, I seek to provide inspiration, stories, facts, and products that invite kindred souls to walk with Mary Magdalene along the path of a creative spirituality. Independently or complimentary to your personal belief system, the blog posts and practices shared in Magdalene.org are meant to inspire the soul and explore how we can overcome life’s challenges to grow spiritually in the process.

I invite you to drop by regularly, ask questions, collaborate and share. We are never alone when we create together.
