Mary Magdalene, Our Lady of Fire, is inspired by the passion and love that the Magdalene helps ignite in all the hearts she touches. It is a contemporary icon that uses traditional ideas together with my personal inspiration.
 
I was inspired by the ancient religious icons. In icons, the eyes hold the essence and power of the image. I wanted Mary Magdalene's eyes to express her wisdom and also her purity of soul. 
 
Mary Magdalene has guided me to explore the world of the Spirit in different ways, traditional and non-traditional. This is part of what I want to express in this image. She is inspired by a traditional way of painting, but she is also a contemporary expression of spirituality: a spirituality that recognizes the connection in all human beings. 
 
This is Mary Magdalene's greatest teaching. She is the saint of all, including those who do not believe in anything, but believe in the redeeming power of Imagination, Creativity and Love.
 
This contemporary icon of Mary Magdalene is how I imagine the fire of passion burns in the saint's heart, and in our own spiritual hearts.
